By the way, how much was that Black Mist China? Is it brilliant, traditional, somewhere in between, or an odd mix of finishes?

That china is a Diamond series 18" Thin Fast china with a blackened finish that is somewhat brilliant/shiny.  It is very dark and fast, and exotic.  I paid the endorsers price rate for it last year.  I think it was around $100.

I have many new Saluda cymbals on the way.  I will be posting some new pics in a couple of weeks when the new pies arrive.  Smile

Well I gave them a shot and really cant get comfortable with them.  I have always played "turkish" style cymbals and just feel more comfortable with the darker sounds.   Oh well you never know unless you try lol.

Nice to hear!  Were Saluda happy to have you back?
Why are you screaming? I haven't even cut you yet.

Well I never really left officially.  Just trying some things out.  I am planning to order some more rocking versions of the jazz series with brilliant finishes.

Got the new batch of Saluda cymbals.  Heres a review and pix.  Enjoy dudes!!

The new set came in yesterday, and I could not be happier. I got the chance to fully test them out (although they still require some break-in time) with my bass player last night. For such a large set Jamie did an excellent job getting all the sound I wanted, kudos to him! They are some of the best looking cymbals I have ever seen with tons of extra hammering and lathing. Very impressed here! I'll try to give my review thus far and I will post pics tonight when I have time to take some proper ones.

20" Earthworks Fusion/Jazz Ride
-Very dark, woody, dry, and complex. A GREAT jazz/fusion ride. Has a powerful dark wash yet still has a controllable stick sound. This ride opens up easily at the edge for a powerful dark crash. Also has a beautiful finish.
20" Earthworks Dark Rock Ride with brilliant top
-Dark and cutting ping. Very melodic sounding from the edge to the bell. Has a dark wash that never builds up too much under fast sticking patterns. Very shiny with lots of hammer marks. Has the perfect weight, not too heavy like some rock rides are. I think of this as more of a prog rock dark ride.
14" Definitive Jazz Brilliant Top/Earthworks Dark Rock Bottom Hats
-These are simply amazing. They have a dark and almost soft feel, but still have the power to drive a hard rock band. Very dynamic and articulate when playing fast open/close patterns. Dark and sloshy open sound that blends great with the music. They have a vintage vibe to them that is really cool.
18" Definitive Jazz Thin Brilliant Crash
-This crash has a very full and dark wash. Opens up easily with a smooth complex shimmer and plenty of wobble. Tons of hammering making this cymbal visually stunning.
16" Definitive Jazz Fast Crash Brilliant (the one Jamie is lathing in the pic)
-This crash is very thin and fast. Provides nice punchy accents, and can also be very soft and smooth.
18" Diamond Thin dark Crash Brilliant
-Very dark and mysterious sound with nice projection. Has a delicate sound yet it can still be plenty powerful if needed. Mallet rolls are like thunder with very pleasing overtones.
17" Diamond Thin dark Crash Brilliant
-This is just a great all around dark thin crash. Opens right up with an explosive complex wash, then fades smoothly.
18" Diamond Dark Thin China Brilliant
-This china is shiny! Really shiny! This is hands down the best china I have ever played. Dark, smooth, trashy and some crash-like qualities. This china could be used for any music style it is so versatile.
16" Definitive Jazz Thin China Brilliant
-As with the above china this one owns! Its also very thin and dark, only this one has a deeper oriental flavor and is very fast sounding. Great for quick accents and combining with splash/crash hits. amazing cymbal.
10" Definitive Jazz Dark Splash Brilliant
-Dark, thin, and somewhat trashy. This little guy is heavily hammered and has a very complex sound for a splash. It speaks quickly and fades fast. Very pleasing with no harsh overtones.
10" Diamond Medium Splash Brilliant
-This splash is also dark toned, but has a more cutting sound than the DJ. It is fairly thin and quick with a slightly longer sustain than the DJ. A perfect compliment. also this splash is super versatile.

Thanks again Jamie for such great cymbals and service. Truly one of a kind!

Sweet cymbals! I'm hoping to trade in a cymbal for a Saluda one!
